Figure / Ground Logo

A Figure/Ground relationship is the relationship that on object has with the space that surrounds it. This principle can also be called positive and negative space; the positive (figure) space being the object itself and the negative (ground) space being the background. In graphic design this principle can lend itself well to interesting logo design. Normally the background space is viewed as passive and less important as we tend to focus on objects rather than the space that surrounds it. That is, of course, unless the background is made into something more dynamic; something that is a recognizable form in itself.

Bullfrog Spas Vehicle Wraps

Bullfrog Spas recently asked me to design two vehicle wraps for a newly purchased trailer that will be used to sell spas at off site events and road shows. They wanted one side to focus on the lifestyle side of spa ownership and the other side to be big, bold and focus on a “Hot Tub Sale”. The catch was that both sides, although drastically different in message, needed to have an element of consistency in design. These are the final design for the two sides of the trailer.  A special thanks to Jaden Kemp for providing the photos of the finished trailer and to Color Gaphics for a fine job on the printing.
