Bullfrog Spas Lifestyle Posters

I designed a series of three lifestyle image posters to work in conjunction with the new Bullfrog Spas System Posters from a few weeks ago.  The goal was to add a few more poster options for our dealers that would allow them to further enhance the look and feel of their showrooms.  Each poster features three different images and illustrates some of the lifestyle advantages to owning a Bullfrog Spa.  Specs 2′ x 3′.

9 Squares

9-square

The objective of this project was to show the use of repetition on a single design.  The project is made up of a single repeated design mounted on 4″ x 4″ acrylic squares.   The designed squares are in turn mounted to a large  piece of black sheet metal with magnets.  Using magnets allows each individual acrylic square to be moved and rotated freely adding a sense of interactivity and interchangeability to the final piece.

Bouldering Action Photography

I spent this past weekend down in central Utah with some friends bouldering in an area known as Joes Valley.  As usual, I brought my camera with the hopes of getting a few shots.

Sport X Control Pad Overlay

2009 Sport X Classic Overlay

I mentioned in my last post that Bullfrog Spas will be introducing a new spa series called Sport X.  After finishing the new logo for the series, I was asked to design a new control pad for the Sport X Line.  As with the new logo, the new control pad needed to reflect the look and feel that the Sport X line represents; youthful, active, and sporty.  After working through many different concepts, I decided this design best represented the new line.

In the next few months, Bullfrog will be introducing a new spa line called Sport X.  This new line is targeted at a younger, more athletically oriented audience that puts an emphasis on fitness and overall wellness.  In order to help establish an identity for this specific spa line I was asked to design a logo that would appeal to the new audience.  I determined that in order for this new design to be effective, it needed to appeal to an audience that is younger than that which we have typically targeted, but still represent the overall identity that Bullfrog Spas has already established.  It would also need to have a clean look that would work in conjunction with our standard logo as well as work within the confines of our standard color scheme.  All this needed to be accomplished while still portraying a younger, more “sporty” image.  After working through thirty to forty different concepts, I decided on this particular design.

Bullfrog Spas System Posters

Each year as part of the supporting marketing materials we provide to Bullfrog Spa dealers throughout the US and Canada, we design a series of 2′x3′ posters.  The posters explain the benefits or owning a Bullfrog Spa and illustrate the technological features that make them different from other spa brands.  With all of the new 2009 model year changes, it was once again time to redesign the poster set.

In the past, the posters have been visually bland and overly technical.  The old posters did a good job illustrating the technical aspects of our spas, but they lacked the visible punch and clarity needed to capture a customers attention in a retail showroom.  My goal while redesigning the new poster set was to try and correct the shortcomings of past posters while still communicating the technical messages we needed to communicate. Here’s a quick breakdown of what I did:

Title:  On past designs, the title was simply the name of the technical feature that was focused on in each poster.  This worked fine, but failed to entice the consumer to read further into what we had to say.  By changing the titles to help reflect how the technology benefits the consumer, we are more able to capture their attention.

Main Message Area: The main message area of each poster uses many of the same images as we have used in past designs, but the supporting copy has been changed from technical language to benefit orientated language.  This helps illustrate how each technical feature can benefit the consumer.  I also added some color to help make the posters more visually appealing.

Supporting Imagery: One of the main downfalls of past design has been the fact that while they clearly showed the technical aspects of our spas, they failed to visually communicate how that technology related to the actual spa owner.  To overcome this problem, I decided to add a storyboard section at the bottom of each design.  Doing this would serve two purposes.  First, it would show some of the technical concepts in action and show how they benefit the consumer.  Second, they would add color and visual appeal to the overall look of the poster set, thus helping add the visual impact that was lacking in past designs.
