Bullfrog Spas Series II Control Panel
This project was really a fun one to work on. Designing something that will be used by people on a daily basis meant that the final printed piece would get a lot of face time with people. This control panel is what consumers will use to control the jetting, temperature, and other spa functions on the new 2009 Series II Bullfrog Spas.
I had two goals when I set out to design the control panel:
- Design it in such a way that it flows with the design of the rest of the spa. This would be a bit tricky because the colors used on the control panel would have to work alongside a variety of different spa shell colors.
- Be as user friendly as possible. I wanted to make sure that the person using this control panel would fully understand how to use the various functions of their spa without being confused by abstract symbols, confusing layouts, or anything else.
After working through nearly 50 different ideas, I settled on using a subtle wave as the backdrop of the design. I did this for two reasons. The most obvious reason was because of its tie in with the flowing hot water of a spa, but the wave also worked with all of the smooth flowing lines of the spa itself. I based the color scheme on some light grays and blues and tested them against all of our spa shell colors. After a little tweaking, I found a combination that worked across the board.
The final piece was printed on a durable, waterproof plastic and die cut to fit within the designated space on the electronic portion of the control system. The buttons are embossed so they are easy to feel. And finally, each symbol is back lit so that they are easy to see even when using the spa at night.
Bullfrog Spas 2008 Summer Photo Shoot
This collection was taken earlier this summer for Bullfrog Spas. These images are used in various print and web applications.
2009 Bullfrog Spas Master Brochure
One of the most rewarding parts of a project is getting the final printed piece back from the printer. Our marketing department has been working on this brochure for quite some time now and it is nice to finally have it done. I cannot take credit for the design and layout of the brochure. My coworker and friend Clay Norman put it together and I must say he did a fantastic job. I can, however, take credit for a large portion of the photography that was included in the brochure. Talon Printing here in Salt Lake took care of the printing and the results were great. we’ve worked with them on a number of projects and I highly recommend them. Here are a few sample spreads from the brochure…
Bullfrog Spas Studio Shoot
These images were taken during a studio shoot for Bullfrog Spas’ new 2009 product line. My goal was to highlight some of the new features of the 2009 product using artistic and creative angles. Unfilled spas make for an interesting photography subject. Shiny surfaces, curvy sweeping lines, and high contrast between the jets and the rest of the spa offer some interesting opportunities. These images are used in a variety of print and web applications.
Promotion Posters
These posters were designed for various Bullfrog Spas factory sponsored promotions throughout the year. They are made available for Bullfrog spa dealers to to display in their showrooms during the promotional periods. Size: 11×17.
Bullfrog Spas Fall Photo Shoot
In 2009 Bullfrog Spas will be unveiling a newly redesigned spa line. To help with the promotion of this new line, we needed to have supporting imagery for brochures, billboards, newspaper ads, and our website. Here are a few of the images from our on location shoot.
Under Water Spa Jet Photography
Here are a few sample images from an underwater photo shoot I did a few weeks ago for Bullfrog Spas. These images will be featured in Bullfrog Spas’ 2009 brochure as well as on various other print and web projects.
Bullfrog Spas Business Cards
I designed these business cards with two goals:
- Make an immediate visual and textural impact so that those to whom the cards were given would remember them as being drastically different from what they typically see. I figured that the longer the recipient holds the card in their hand and looks at the card, the more likely they are to remember it.
- Maximize the opportunity to brand the Bullfrog Spas “JetPak” logo by making it the center piece of the card. Doing this will give those handing the cards out the opportunity to explain the concept behind the product they sell.
The cards were printed on 100 lb. natural cover stock using Bullfrog’s official Pantone blue and gray inks. The Jetpak logo is die cut out of the paper and the corners are rounded. The contrast between each side of the card encourages people to flip it over in their hand.
Spa Side Signs
These 13″ x 16″ signs were designed to be displayed next to hot tubs in a showroom setting. The series consists of 10 signs, on for each hot tub model. Each sign displays all of the technical specifications of the hot tub model they highlight and also feature a different lifestyle image. These signs are used in the Bullfrog Spas factory showroom in Bluffdale, Utah as well as in dealer showrooms across the US and Canada.
